Ferret Forum reviews
I love email lists. Actually, it’s an addiction. I think it has to do with the nerd in me. I never feel like I have learned enough and am always looking for great sources of information. Email lists and forums help keep me updated. Now I like books and sometimes I wonder what the mailman thinks after delivering my monthly stash of pet magazines, but the information in them can become outdated very quickly. Many of the lists I am on have other members who are very knowledgeable, even experts in their field.
I find this especially true with some of the different ferret lists I am on. There is not a ton of information available on ferrets in bookstores. Fortunately, long time ferret owners, breeders and even vets are more than welling to help educate new and old ferret owners.
The Ferret Mailing List is the top of the line when it comes to email lists on ferrets and it has been around since the early 1990’s. It is a great general list where people discuss anything ferret related. Because ferret people are very passionate about ferrets, there are times the list erupts, but the moderator quickly settles things down and directs them back to a much less controversial topic. You can view the archives by visiting http://listserv.ferretmailinglist.org/archives/ferret-search.html or to subscribe, email ferret-l-request@listserv.ferretmailinglist.org
The Ferret Health List is, well, an email list about the health of ferrets. Unfortunately, ferrets tend to have a lot of health problems and there aren’t enough vets who are familiar with their care. This list is the best place to find information. Members include several ferret vets, ferret breeders, shelter operators and many long time ferret owners. It has an extensive archives at http://ferrethealth.org/archive/ which is a great place to start if you are looking for information. The Everything Ferret Forum is one of the nicest places I have found to talk ferret. Very rarely do I see any problems with members putting down other members, in fact, they are very willing to help new ferret owners. It is also the home to the best food comparison chart ever. You do need to be a member to read and post to the forum. To join, visit their site at http://everythingfert.proboards36.com/index.cgi
